In 2006 this event was named the Sgt Jerry Mills Jr. Fishing Derby, who was killed in the Iraq war in Nov 2005, while serving our country.

It’s fitting that the Derby is held at Veterans Memorial Lake as it allows us time to remember and give thanks to not only Sgt Jerry Mills Jr but to all those who have served in military service as well as to those that have made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms. We are grateful for their service and sacrifice and that of your families.
